I
am now six months out from an open RNY surgery and still doing well.
Reading your notes about the plateaus really hit home. The
first three months the weight was just falling off -- about 5-8 lbs.
per week. I am now at 91 pounds lost and holding. BS
(before surgery) this is about the time I would completely go nuts,
go off my "diet", and start gaining the weight back.
This surgery (our blessed tool!!!) keeps me on the straight
and narrow. I don't panic about the slowing down of weight
loss. I just have to keep focused and stay the course. It
may be that my weight will come off slower now, but if I am true to
the food plan and exercise I will succeed.
I
have to add one other comment. I enjoyed reading about your
thinner thighs in shorts. I have also enjoyed this summer more
because of the 91pound loss. But because I am 55 years old my
skin has taken on a "creepy" look. This does not
bother me too much and it hasn't stopped me from wearing fewer
clothes this summer. Summers in Louisiana are brutal and
wearing shorts has saved me this year.
About
a week ago I finished taking my bath and was drying off in my
dressing area. Of course, there is a huge mirror on the wall.
My back was to the mirror and as I was drying off I happened
to look over my shoulder at the mirror. OMG -- it looked like
someone had let the air out of my ass!!!!! Bummer -- my rear
end now looks like the face of a Shar Pei puppy. Oh well, I will be
content with the sags and bags. Much better than my old fat
butt!!! Just thought I'd share this bit of humor with you.
I
truly enjoy your newsletter and wish you continued success. I
am so much happier now and feel 20 years younger. Like
you, I feel so much younger than my 55 years. As much as I
struggled making the decision to have this surgery, it definitely
was the right one to make. I have lost 91 lbs. so far and am
creeping up on the Century Club admission. Will keep you posted as
to my progress.
We
will be leaving for Destin, Florida tomorrow for our yearly vacation
and it is the first time in more than 12 years that I will be
wearing a swimsuit. I started this journey in the Size 26
category and just purchased a Size 18 bathing suit. Have lost
about 15 lbs. since I bought the suit but know it will be fine.
This is the first time I have bought clothes and not had to worry
about gaining weight before I wear them. What a Treat!!!!!
My
open RNY has given me the tool I need to live a normal life with my
family. I now look at food and wonder what caused it to have
such a hold on my life. Now I understand what it means to
"eat to live" and not "live to eat."
Take
care. You are a wonderful role model and we appreciate your
contributions. Susan
